New Thai restaurant

Just noticed the sign for the new Thai restaurant in Pike Creek Shopping Center - Soybean Asian Grille.

Haven't yet checked out the menu/food. But I will soon.

Phone number is 636-0800. It's open 11 to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mon.-Thurs.; 11 to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat.; and closed Sunday.

Anyone been there yet?

I know someone that went last night. They said it was very good. I'll have to try it - I love spicy food.

Eh...I wasn't that impressed. I got the Pad Thai, which was just ok, much better versions at Jasmine and Sweet Basil. Also, got the Duck Salad, also much better at Sweet Basil. For app, got the Curry Puffs, which were good, but would not order again. Maybe i ordered the wrong things, but the flavor seemed to be lacking compared to other thai themed places in the area...

Thanks for the report. I'm a fan of both Sweet Basil and Tasti Thai in New Castle so I'm looking forward to seeing and trying what they offer here....

I had dinner at Soybean Asian Grille last weekend and it was a nice experience. The food is great and price is very reasonable - compared with Potsitcker and Jasmine. The staffs are very friendly as well. I will go back soon......

I had dinner there last Saturday. The service was friendly and prompt; the atmosphere was pleasant; and the food was about what I expected in Pike Creek. I haven't been to Jasmine or Sweet Basil, but I've had excellent Thai food in other parts of the country. We started with roti canai, a Malaysian "thousand-layer" pancake served with a coconut curry for dipping. The curry was delicious, but the roti was more dense than flaky. The menu says you can request dishes be made from 1 to 3 peppers in spiciness; we asked for the squid salad as hot as possible, but it was still pretty mild. It wasn't bad, but the flavors weren't as bright as they could be. We took the waitresses recommendation for duck with basil; I wish I'd tried a curry instead. The duck breast was dry and chewy. Last, we ordered Pad Thai as a litmus test. It was okay. Again, the flavors were on the flat side. I wonder if, in deference to local tastes, they are downplaying the fish sauce, hot peppers and fresh herbs that give Thai food it's characteristically bright tastes? The name, "Soybean Asian Grille," sure doesn't promise exotic flavors. But all that said, the service was friendly, the lighting and sound level were very comfortable, the prices were extremely reasonable, and it's the only Thai restaurant for miles. I'll give it a few more tries.

I agree completely, Anon. Everything was just on the flat side, but not horrible. But, really, Sweet Basil is the closest, outside Philly, to real, tasty, thai food nearby...
