Hot pizza at a Hot Spot

A recent lunch had me give Hot Spot Pizza a try. I know of at least two Hot Spot locations around, one in Wilmington. But this stop was at 1127 Churchmans Rd. near Christiana Hospital.

When it comes to pizza, I like it hot. I much prefer fresh pizza the next day as opposed to leftovers from the night before. Anyway, for this lunch, the two cheese slices from Hot Spot were served up piping hot.

Maybe it was a coincidence, or considering their name, maybe it's their speciality to serve very hot food. This was the first time in a while I can remember having to let the slices cool off a bit before eating them. Usually, even if a pizza slice is rather hot, I'll eat it anyway, having long gotten used to burning the top of my mouth.

Hot Spot pizza is pretty cheesy, too. I didn't like the sauce as much, but I'll definitely go back, perhaps to try their wings to see how hot those are. The Hot Spot on Churchmans Road, which has a full menu of subs, steaks, wraps, etc., can be reached at (302) 283-1317.

In snack news, I've tried a new entry to Pepperidge Farm's Flavor Blasted Goldfish crackers, the Monstrous Mozzarella Stick variety. My first reaction was that, even for this extra cheese fan, they were too cheesy. As I snacked on them a little more, I liked them a little more. If you like mozzarella sticks, give these a try. But I don't anticipate buying a second bag of these anytime soon.

Also found another good no-calorie drink, Skinny Water, which joins the trend of offering all kinds of antioxidants in various forms and combinations. Why have drinks with sugar or Splenda (yuck) when you can have lutein, hesperidine and the Regular Guy's new favorite, chromium.

Sure, the label says "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." But hesperidine methyl chalcone seems healthier than, say it with me now, high fructose corn syrup. I've had the Peach Mango Mandarin and Acai Grape BlueBerry so far, and enjoyed them both. Give these a try if you want to skip soda or other sugar-rich juices.

Lastly, some soda feedback to pass along from two readers recommending Jones Pure Cane Soda, especially mixing its vanilla soda with rum, cracked ice and "a generous wedge of fresh lime squeezed into the glass." The two also like Jones' root beer and lemon sodas, and also suggest trying Thomas Kemper sodas, which they find at the Genuardi's in Kennett Square.

Are you the "Regular Guy" because you have ceased to be constipated?
