Give us our daily bread...

Ah, Met bread.

I love visiting the Metropolitan Bakery stall in Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market, a historic farmers market at 12th and Arch streets.

I'm not loyal to any one loaf. I usually ask what's new or what they recommend, hand over some dough (sorry! couldn't resist), get my bread loaf card stamped - buy 10 loaves and the 11th one is free - and go home quite happy.

Please pass the wine and cheese.

But trucking into Center City - and trying to park - for a loaf or two or three of artisanal bread can be a hassle. And that's why I was very happy to get an email today from Stacey Himes of Metropolitan Bakery telling me that these Old World style breads are now available in Delaware at Francine's in Hockessin. Visit www.francinesorganic.com.

Woo-hoo! Francine's carries different loaves on different days, but the varieties can include French berry rolls, whole wheat baguettes, organic spelt, pain au levain (the ones with the "M" logo dusted on top), the Tuscan country, and multigrain.

They were available at foodsource - now Janssen's carries Metropolitain bread and rolls. Not cheap, though.

The Reading Terminal now validates parking at the lot across the street on 12th!
