The man who made Gordon Ramsay cry

British chef Gordon Ramsay is all bluster and bad words. While he may come off as the kitchen's baddest bad boy, he learned much of his schtick and cooking chops from master chef Marco Pierre White.

White's a legend in the culinary word. This chef's chef once threw a pan of risotto at a young Mario Batali who worked with him at a London pub.

Batali - before quitting - paid him back by dumping handfuls of salt into White's simmering pots.

And perhaps the most famous White story is the day he made fledging chef and former protege Gordon Ramsay cry.

Now White's bringing his expertise to this side of the pond. His show "The Chopping Block" premieres March 11. (Here's some more info about White.)

Something to think about if you're going through "Top Chef" withdraw.

Hi Sean. Thanks for visiting. I agree with your thoughts about MPW. For years, I had a photo of him on my desk, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, holding a huge fish (I think it was from the New Yorker.) Everyone who passed by would say "Who IS that guy?" He's definitely not a Food Network friendly type of chef. Interesting to see how he'll play on network TV.
