Phillies phever and phood

What a fabulous weekend of baseball.
Went to the Phils game Friday night and it was electrifying. Plenty of Del. fans. I ran into Xavier Teixido, owner of Harry's Savoy and Harry's Seafood grills.

The weather was perfect and fans hung onto every pitch, clutching their rally towels and chanting "MVP" every time J Rol came to bat.

We were rewarded for our belief - who's dismissing Rollins' soothsaying abilities now, baby? - and those endless nights of sitting through games that stretched well past 9 innings.

What a game on Sunday! (OK, we just forget Saturday's blip. Sunday made everything all better anyway.)

It feels like '93 all over again. I know because I went to many games that year. I have a photo on my desk when the Phils became the 1993 National League Champions and the ticket stub to prove it.

Got to Citizens Bank Park early on Friday and got in line for a Tony Luke's $7.25 roast pork sandwich. Only had to wait about 15 mins., which wasn't too bad. Couldn't get my partner in crime to try one. The broccoli rabe scared him. He went for a cheesesteak with onions and provolone. (Though, he did have a bite or two of my sandwich and thought it was really good even with the greens. See? Told you so.)

Tony Luke's makes a very garlicky and juicy sandwich. It's not the easiest thing to eat when you're sitting in the stands. (I could only eat a 1/4 of it.) I was tempted to use my rally towel as a napkin, but that seemed sacrilegious.

Keeping in the Philly spirit, I'm going to order cheesesteaks on Wednesday.

What's your favorite place for cheesesteaks? Normally, I go to Jim's on South Street in Philly, but I want something closer to home.

Casapulla's? Capriotti's? Some place else?

Let's hear it.

Pat's actually has pretty decent cheesesteaks and I'm a big fan of Galuccio's. I haven't been back since college but I was always fond of Cleveland Ave Sub Shop too.

Capriotti's has great steak sandwiches - their rolls are soft and delicious. A cheesesteak with mushrooms, extra cheese and fried onions is my favorite!!

CLAYMONT STEAK SHOP- Without question !

I have not found a place in Delaware that makes good cheesesteaks compared to NJ or PA, Pizza is bad in DE also. Why is this?

THREE D's on Moore's Lane in New Castle has the best Cheesesteaks around. I bet you can't eat their large with everything!!!

Claymont Steak Shop is the best. It is not even close. X-cheese, FO, Mushrooms, and light ketchup. MMMMMM.......

Al Casapula's in Milville, Delaware is the very best, especially with hot peppers. They fry sliced hot cherry peppers right on the grill with the steak, making the peppers hotter.

As a native Philadelphian I have search the state looking for the Philly Cheesesteak of my childhood. I still haven't found one! The closest is Claymont steak shop, but if you like your steak with "Whiz" you won't find anything as good as Jim's in Delaware.

CAPELLI's STEAK/SUB SHOP IN Fox run in Bear, Delaware has the best cheeseteak in the bear/glasgow area. Capriotti's and Casupullas are also very good, but i think Capelli's is the best in Delaware.

CLAYMONT ISN'T BAD, IF YOU DON'T MIND THE OCCASSIONAL BUG OR ROACH IN YOUR CHEESESTEAK

I have lived in Delaware my whole life, and loved the cheesesteaks. But after having my first real philly cheesesteak about 4 years ago, they all lost their luster. If I had to chose one it would be cappriotti's, Claymont is overrated. If anyone is driving to South Philly anytime, bring me back a steak!

when Steakworks on Silverside re-opens, they had the best cheesesteaks in Delaware.

Cleveland Avenue Sub Shop is the place!!

No steak in Delaware can compare to the worst in Philly. I can't explain it, but it's the truth. Tony Luke's is my fave in Philly, with Jim's (4th & South) a close second. T-Lukes rolls are so good, I think that makes the difference, oh and they use sharp provolvone. The best in Delaware would have to be Claymont, but they still don't compare to Lukes, Jims, Pats, Ricks, or Genos. Anyone who mentions Capriottis or Casapullas for steaks has NO clue.

Best place in the area for cheesesteaks is a little hole-in-the-wall place in S. Philadelphia off Snyder Ave. called John's Roast Pork. Unfortunately, it's only open weekdays until 2 or 3. Wonderful rolls, meat and cheese melt in your mouth. Oddly enough, their pork sandwiches aren't as good as Tony Luke's, just around the corner. As for Delaware? Claymont is good in a pinch, but take the trip to Tony Luke's 20 minutes away.

The best cheesesteaks in Delaware, try Marino's in Bear, located in Eden Square Shopping Center, everything always fresh...Give them a try They have a classic philly cheesesteak, better than you can find in Philly!

I like the new Cheesesteak Pop Tarts. The beef really tastes like beef.

I second the above post about John's Roast Pork on Snyder in South Philly. It's so much better than anywhere in Delaware it's not even a contest (and Tony Luke's and Jim's aren't too bad either, and better than anything here). The roll isn't supposed to be soft, it should have a little crust, enough to hold the sandwich together. Just save your cholesterol points for the special trip and skip it around here, which is what I do. Go to Capriotti's for a turkey sub.
