Bon Appetit on Delaware

Bon Appetit magazine's May issue is devoted to the best eats in all 50 states.

When it comes to chomping and quaffing in Delaware, they say you can't go wrong with:

- Focaccia at Black Lab Breads, 812 N. Union St., Wilmington.

- Crab cakes at Sambo's Tavern, 283 Front St., Leipsic.

- 90 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, 320 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach (brewery is in Milton.)

(We have to say that's not a bad list - to start.)

For Bon Appetit's complete list of the "United Plates of America," visit www.bonappetit.com/

What do you think?

I'm going to be a guest on Martha Stewart Living Radio on Sirius XM Satellite Radio later this month to talk about Delaware food. (More details to come.)

What Delaware food/restaurants do you think deserve a mention? Comment, comment, comment.

The Iron Gate in Dover is a must for everyone. I have been dining there for over 25 years, at least once a year. I wish that I could go more often, but it is 40 miles from where I live and a little inconvenient. The food is always excellent, service great and the servings abundant.

My wife and I love Moro in Wilmington. Their food is fantastic and inventive!

Moro's great. Krazy Kats is a real standout. And I'm going to keep harping on Pomodoro with you all until you agree with me.

But honestly, if you moved, you could find great Italian or French in any city (almost). But you know what you couldn't get? Crabs at Lazy Susan's or a Deerhead hotdog.

Capriotti's

Where the heck is Leipsec?

I'd have to agree with Capriotti's. You can't get a good sub outside of this area.

Bella Vista in Pike Creek. Everything on the menu is excellent

The Panko Crusted Fried Oysters at Harry's Savoy are excellent! Also, the steamed shrimp at Sambo's are the best by far I have had anywhere.

Patty, the editor of Gastronomica magazine once asked me if there was a food or dish characteristic of Delaware, and I couldn't come up with anything that wasn't partly owned by a neighboring state (eg, Delmarva chicken, crabs, subs, produce). The only thing I could come up with, but again, not unique to Delaware, was soy. What's your take on a "Delaware food" or Delaware's food scene in general for the Martha Stewart Living radio show, should the question come up?

I think I'm going to focus on the foods that you must eat if you come to Delaware.I'm still working on my answers and will share closer to or after the interview. Thanks!

You shouldn't consort with convicted felons. No ethics for you, huh?
