Finding pho: UPDATED

An early heads- and forks up on Friday's Taste column.
Pho Nhu Vu, 1146 Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40) in Bear, 595-2529 is a delicious new find.
I've been driving to Pho 75 near Philly's Italian market for my pho fixes. So I'm so excited to finally find a place for good pho (pronounce it fuh) in Delaware.
Pho is Vietnamese noodle soup and most Delaware restaurants seem to treat it as an afterthought.( The broth has been lackluster; the side offerings of bean sprouts, basil and lime wedges have been tired and limp.)
But Pho Nhu Vu owner Thu Nguyen says she spends eight hours developing her hearty full-flavored beef based broth that's dotted with scallions, herbs and thinly sliced onions.
It shows. The pho ranges from about $6.95 to $8.95. Here's the link to the web site.

Mmmm, I just had delicious Pho for lunch today. I recently started going beyond basic pho tai and really love pho tai nam, which has these pieces of fatty flank steak--it's the bacon of the pho beef world! Delicious.

I tried the tripe once, by accident. The texture felt like bumpy noodles--I didn't like it. I guess I am adventurous only to a certain point!

We go at least 2x/week, good thing they're cheap!!!

Whatever image the word comforting food conjures in your mind when you feel hungry specially with a hangover, the result is very likely a steaming bowl of Vietnamese soup. And nowhere else around here can you find such a hot bowl than at Pho Nhu Vu. Yes, please soothe yourself with slippery rice noodles in fragrant beef broth and fresh cut meat of your choice. Remember to order with less noodles and make sure you squeeze the plump lime wedges in the soup. There you have it. Pho is the best food after those late night-outs.

Pho is our secret remedy for the common cold. We order the beef Pho every time feeling under the weather and it never fails to clear and open up the sinuses. This restaurant in particular has been consistent with their food quality and service. Their Pho broth is both delicious and healthy. Try #53 if you want something good and different.
