Pizza ponderings

Dough, sauce, cheese.

How hard is that?

But it's amazingly difficult to find a great pizza. Not merely good - you know, not the chew, swallow and forget what you just ate pizza.
I'm talking about the can't-wait-to-have another-bite, hey! stop bogarting the slices great pizza!
Seriously, even during my travels in Italy I've been disappointed in the offerings. (Though a cafe near the Campo de Fiori in Rome - sorry, can't recall the name - served one of the best I've had. Ah, Roma!)

I'm in the thin, crispy crust corner when it comes to tomato pies. (I've always thought Mack & Manco's at the Jersey shore did pizza right, though it's been a while since I've had a slice.) Right now, I'm convinced that Pizza by Elizabeths in Greenville still offers one of the best pizzas in Delaware.

Recently, I've been impressed by a couple of take-out pies from Seasons Pizza on Kirkwood Highway, near Milltown. Nice, crispy crust, though not quite as thin as I like, but at least it didn't get all soggy by the time I made it home. (And, no, I didn't know Seasons has won News Journal Reader Choice awards when I ordered the pizzas - I just saw that on their web site.)

I'm thinking about doing an upcoming, indepth, passionate study on pizza in Delaware. (And also start an intense, passionate exercise regimen.)

Who do you think has the best pizza in the state? Why is this place worth a visit?

You need to try two places.

Tony's on Possum Park Rd is the best hands down. He's next to the dry cleaners and liquor store At the corner of Rt 72. Awsome pizza, and his other menu items are terrific! Try the Broccoli Rappa, or the Cauliflower w/ broccoli and garlic in olive oil.. YUMMM! I personally like his red pie, but I like a thick sicilian style. His New York style would be more to your taste and it's also wonderful. You'll drive miles out of your way once you eat here.

Also good is Little Anthony's in the Airport Shopping Plaza. He and his son in law make a great pie. He makes his sauce every day and it's one of the few places I can go and not get heart burn. His white pie is equally as tasy and they also have some of the best steaks and hoagies in the new castle area. Definitely worth trying.

Tony's on Possum Park Road is the best - the service is great also. Also try Frank's Pizza in Bear off off of Jestan Blvd - the pizza is great too.

I have to go with Tony's on possum park road in newark. I was a die hard cafe napoli guy. Tony's won me over. I love their thin crust pizza my wife loves the sicilian. They have a great antipasta salad and the penne ala vodka is hte best! Tony and his brothers are always friendly and after you have been there a couple of times they will remember you and talk you up when you arrive. Great place. Make sure you call ahead on weekend nights the line is out the door! ciao!

The best pizza I've had in Delaware is from Dom's Pizza & Steaks in Newport (Newport Plaza- right next door to the Dunkin Donuts on Rte. 4) Dom's pie is the closest your going to get to an authentic NY Style pizza. The chicken cheesesteaks and cheesesteaks are also great! Don't miss Dom's Thursday special...

Dom's is the best Pizza I have found in Delaware since moving here from Boston 10 years ago.
Way to go Dom!!
Route 4 in Newport next to Dunkin Donuts (now famous for selling 3 day old donuts :-P~~~ go to Shop Rite for great cheap donuts and good coffee)
